This is Sogndal!

Sogndal IL comes from the smallest Premier division area in Norway, and maybe in western Europe. The place houses only 7000 inhabitants. They play their games at Fosshaugane Campus, which holds 5000 fans. It’s impressive if they can fill half of it, minding that they has a very small population around! Their coach is Jonas Olsson, a former IF Gothenburg manager.

About the stadium:

Capacity(Seat/stand): 5000(4000/1000)

Turf: Natural, but artificial will be finished during the summer pause.

Opened: 2006

Away Section: I’ve never been there before, so I don’t know the facilities.

History:

As Sogndal is a small place geographically, the club is quite small club in Norwegian football, even though they have brought up players like Frode Grodås, Eirik Bakke and Tore André Flo (who still plays for the club).

From the founding in 1926 to 1976, the club was unknown in for almost everyone. Then out of nothing, Sogndal, as a third tier club, reached the cup final. Even though they lost to Brann, that’s counted for being the breakthrough.

Since then they have been on a rollercoaster between the first and the third tier, mostly on the second one. The last promotion came in 2010.

The cup final in 1976 is the closest Sogndal has comed to glory.

Key Player: Eirik Bakke

Eirik Bakke (to the left) in a duel with ODDs Paul Addo

One of the most controversial players in Norway. The former Leeds player is known for his rough tackles, and his temper. He is the heart of the team, and a local lad.

Young talent: Ørjan Hopen

19 year old who mesmerized Norway with beautiful corners and freekicks last season.

League position:

Ended up on 14th place last season, though with a good margin to the relegated teams.

Last five games:

Sogndal – Førde 4-1

Sogndal – Hødd 2-0

Sogndal – Fyllingsdalen 4-1

Molde – Sogndal 0-0

strømsgodset – Sogndal 2-4

Importance of this match:

It’s the first day of the season, and everyone wants a kickstart obviously.

History between the clubs:

There has been very few important games between these clubs. The only one mentionable is a qualification in 1996, where the winner passed on to play in Tippeligaen. Sogndal won.

Relationship between the fans:

Their fan club Saftkokaradn is a small and quiet gang. Like many other up there, they are kind and gentle.

Their well known slogan, which says “Go on”.

They don’t exactly make any riots …
