We’re going back to last season when ODD had an absence from the top division. It’s 2008, and they was going to meet Fredrikstad FK, nr. 2 in Tippeligaen, in the cup quarterfinal. In the last tie we had beaten promotion rivals IK Start with a dramatic, late winner. August that year was nice, warm and sunny, and that evening was no exception.
8.000 fans had found their seats, which turned out to be the highest of the year. It didn’t take long til the ball hit the net, but unfortunately for ODD, it was called off due to offside. But the ref had nothing to say on the next incident. Winger Jacob Sørensen(the fastes guy I’ve ever seen) passed his opponent, went down to the line, and crossed the ball into the 6-yard-box. There stood Peter Kovacs(An Hungarian bear, unfortunately now playing for strømsgodset(Those Rats)), who easily beated his marker, and scored! 1-0 up, and a real shocker for Fredrikstad.
After 37 minutes ODD won a corner. It was swung in by Søren Jensen, who hit Chukwuma Akabueze(unfortunately now in brann), who easily netted number two with his head.
Just minutes later another chance came to his feets as he came one-on-one, but the shot came too close to the goalkeeper, who pushed it out for a corner. The place was rocking!
2-0 at half time. A very deserved though very surprising result so far.
Not much happened after that, which ment extra time.
No goal during extra time, but Kasey Wehrman was gifted a second yellow card due to a professional foul during an ODD-counter.
Time ran out and a penalty shoot-out had to be decicive.
First out was ODDs Peter Kovacs. He seemingly chosed to honour John Terry. He slipped, and the ball rolled into the keepers arms.
Ardian Gashi(FFK) scored on the next one. So did also Fredrik Gulsvik(ODD) and Michael Trulsen. 1-2 after two penalties each.
Up climbed Søren Jensen. And scored.
Ismael Beko Fofana was the next one. He gave it his best, but unlucky for him, Espen Isaksen went the same way.
After that they followed each other all the way. Untill it was Patrik Gerrbrands turn. A lot of pressure was on him, and the whole stadium tried to psyche him out. Obviously he couldn’t handle the pressure, and Espen Isaksen saved the poor penalty. ODD was in the semi final, and the stadium exploded!
Fantastic result for the club, and they now had a semi final away against vålerenga to look forward to…
